Tax Accountant
Remote - The Woodlands, TX
The Payroll Tax Accountant will engage in all activities related to payroll tax, to include the reconciliation, filing, and disbursement of Federal, State and Local obligations.
Specific Job Expectations include
- Prepare daily tax closeouts on a rotating schedule
- Make withholding tax deposits as required by taxing authority pay frequencies for assigned states
- Prepare/file payroll tax returns and transmit deposits to state, and local agencies for withholding and SUTA for assigned states
- Open tax accounts with state and local agencies as needed
- Prepare POAs/registrations for clients and submit to state agencies to access client’s tax accounts
- Prepare tax reports in response to client tax requests
- Respond to state and local tax notices for assigned states
- Assist with making federal tax deposits as needed
- Assist with resolving outstanding reconciliation items in the general ledger accounts
- Assist with gathering and preparing requested items as required by external auditor for quarterly agreed-upon procedures and annual audits
- Assist with obtaining SUTA rates from states and maintain in Prism, MasterTax, and inform Director of Profitability & Analytics/Pricing of rate changes
- Assist with reconciling quarterly and annual payroll tax returns against payroll system
- Reporting/filing state and local W-2s including assisting with reconciliation of the W-2s to payroll records

Required Qualifications
- 2+ years’ experience with payroll tax filings and related compliance issues
- Multi-state payroll tax experience strongly desired
- Degree in Business, with a concentration in Accounting or equivalent combination of experience and education
- Prior experience with filing taxes using MasterTax is desirable
- PEO experience preferred

- Must be able to maintain the highest level of confidentiality with the ability to handle sensitive material concerning the organization and its clients
- Physical Requirements, Language Skills:
- Must be able to work flexible schedules when needed to support business needs, typically during quarter-end and year-end
- Frequent viewing of computer terminal with wrist/finger movement to operate a computer keyboard and mouse
- Requires sitting or standing for long periods of time
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 25lbs. periodically
- Bend, reach, pull, stoop, and push are all elements of physical activity for this position
- Fluency in English – speak, read and write
